Want to be featured in a Vinyl Dens segment?
Please send your submission to channel33rpm@gmail.com. Make sure to include 8 to 10 clear, well-lit and in-focus photos of your space and gear, including long shots and close ups (horizontal photos are always preferred). Include some wide angle shots of your space (.5 setting, or similar, on your phone) which helps provide perspective.

Also include a bit about yourself (name, age, where you live, how long you have been collecting), a bit about your gear, and information about your room (where in your home it is located, how you put it together, special considerations, cool features, etc.).

I will do my best to get as many rooms as possible on future episodes; however, please note I do get more submissions than I have time to show. All types of music rooms welcome. Thanks!

  1. Oh I miss the days of my youth when all my music was played on a turntable. I loved the ritual of it…choosing an album, holding its cover, slipping the disc out of its sleeve, a few drops of fluid on my Discwasher cleaner, letting the LP spin under it with the slightest pressure applied, the slow drop of the needle, those tiny crackles before the first notes so gloriously appeared…ahhh, the anticipation was luscious, and I know I enjoyed the ensuing music all the more for it.

In older age, I can’t do a lot that I once did in my younger days, including spinning vinyl (or even playing cds). I am forced to stream everything despite my fiercest desires. My problem in older age is I am always flatulent, pretty much 24/7. My digestive system is a cranky beast and is finally slacking off after 64 years of hard labor. I don’t blame it. And I don’t mean little squeaks or cute little toots. I’m talking about big, HUGE, thunderous gaseous blasts that send the tone arm of my turntable skating and screeching across the album’s surface. I’ve tried every workaround, including fastening a stack of quarters with electrical tape on the tone arm head, but even that couldn’t offer resistance to the gale-force wind of my farts. Even with cd players, my fart vibrations caused all kinds of skipping, unlistenable to my ears. Once they even blew the cd player (it’s pretty lightweight) right off the stereo rack to the floor.

My doctor says I should lay off the Rolling Rocks and my chickpea sandwiches piled high with sauerkraut on dark pumpernickel bread if I hope to get any relief. “Ha!,” I responded. “That there diet IS my relief, doc! Do you know how wonderful I feel after pounding down 7 Rolling Rocks and 2 chickpea sandwiches piled high with sauerkraut on dark pumpernickel bread after a full day at work or with the old lady? Let me tell ya…like a million bucks!”

So, yeah, my vinyl days are over. Let my sad example be a lesson to you – savor records and turntables and rituals while you’re still young enough to do so. You may not develop my “superpowers” as you age, but ya never know. You’re most welcome in advance! PS On the bright side, I can produce all the bass my speakers need, so no need for a subwoofer…nice savings in dollars and space. Life is good.
